Chiropractic Care and Learning Disabilities

Studies have shown that chiropractic care may help children with learning disabilities. Since a chiropractic adjustment improves the function of a person’s spine and stimulates the nerve pathways to the cerebellum and various parts of the brain, this can stimulate the brain functions that help us learn.

The sole source of constant stimulation to our brain comes directly from the spine and the postural muscles adjusting constantly to forces of gravity. If the spine is misaligned, our brain doesn’t get the stimulation it needs and can cause issues in the rest of the body.

A study was conducted that shows how chiropractic care may give a wide range of benefits to children that have learning problems such as dyslexia. This study was shown in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research and used 160 children. The results that were given were not full results that need more research and are in the preliminary stage only but it did highly suggest that cognitive abilities could be helped via chiropractic care.

This research was performed by Yannick Pauli, a Swiss Chiropractic Pediatric Association president. Yannic Pauli is a specialist for children with behavioral and learning disorders.

Neurological dysfunction can affect many different areas in a person’s life such as life skills, relationships with peers, sports and the above mentioned learning disabilities.

Learning disorders are neurodevelopmental disorders, which means that parts of the brain aren’t working the way they should or are experiencing a developmental delay. One of these areas is the cerebellum, which is very important when it comes to helping our brains learn things like sensory information and learning as well as making our brain process faster.

While this testing may not see results until far into the future, its preliminary findings are quite promising and warrant the opportunity to do more research into this particular specialty.
