Sciatia is pain that starts in the lower back or buttocks and moves to either one leg or both. This nerve pain can cause a variety of pains from minimal all the way to severe, with a constant level. For some people it can even be occasional but it is still pain that needs to be looked at. The pain is not the same for every sufferer. Some state that it is a sharp pain while others complain that the pain is dull or even feels like electricity shocks to the system. Sciatia is actually a symptom of a disorder although many people think that it is a disorder itself.
The typical cause of sciatia is a compression of the sciatic nerve. The lumbar spine can be misaligned, causing this pain and can be caused by a number of reasons such as a herniated disc, tumors, a slipped disc and pregnancy. There are also disorders that cause this that are not spinal disorders such as sitting on a wallet constantly or even diabetes. The sciatia can cause more serious problems if not treated like insomnia, paralysis of a certain limb or the loss of feeling.
After sciatia is properly diagnosed, chiropractic care is an excellent choice due to the non-invasive nature of treatment. There are a few ways that a chiropractor treats sciatia. Ice or cold therapy, ultrasound treatments and spinal adjustments are the main ways that are used to treat the symptoms of sciatia and bring relief to the sufferer.
No matter what type of pain a patient has due to sciatia, the important thing is to get relief and a chiropractor can certainly advise the patient on which treatment may work best. It can even include all three types of treatment as long as the patient gets the relief they need.
